As Danny Gutierrez lay passing to eternal life, surrounded by six of his
1958 classmates, he whispered to them: "cuiden a los que van quedando. It translates to "Take care of those that are left." Danny was a
driving force promoting Cathedral events for alumni to support. He was
one of the
original organizers for the homecoming football Tamalada. This final encounter resulted in the formation of a brotherhood of Cathedral alumni
named Los Que Van Quedando. This brotherhood started with the class of 1958
and emerged into a non-profit, tax exempted corporation with it's mission to provide financial aid to needy students at Cathedral and help
other impoverished entities.
Los Que Van Quedando is a charitable, educational, religious, fund raising
corporation. We sponsor benefit activities such as The Irish Open golf
tournament, the Tamalada, a Christmas dinner/dance and support of other
Cathedral fund raising events. A monthly general meeting is held with speakers that include community leaders, educators and Catholic
clergy. A monthly newsletter is distributed to the membership to keep current on the corporation and alumni. Activities are
conducted to attract students to Cathedral, help the economy of the local communities and facilitate in bonding Cathedral ex-students and friends.
Los Que Van Quedando has successfully existed for ten years, are well
established and has contributed over hundreds of thousands of dollars
toward Catholic education. The corporation is recognized as important within
the Catholic diocese, it is accepted as a community supporter and has
received many city proclamations. Members come from all walks of
life that include skilled workers, professionals, politicians and business
entrepreneurs who have distinguished themselves in society. Our members give support because they believe in contributing towards Catholic
education and helping the financially deprived student.
